2023 Monster Drawing Rally

Monster Drawing Rally is a partnership fundraising event for the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County and Kimball Art Center, with proceeds benefiting both nonprofits. The live art-making event allows spectators to spy on the creative process, build relationships with local artists, and grow their art collections.

Here’s how it works: Over the course of the afternoon, artists will create artwork LIVE for 50 minutes — artwork being created will include graphite drawings, pen and ink drawings, charcoal, paintings, digital art, collage, and more. Finished pieces are immediately available for purchase when the 50-minute timer runs out.

Takeaways

This was my first year participating in the 2023 Monster Drawing Rally in Park City, UT. I would encourage any Utah local artists who have the time and ability to participate in a future event. I met artists I didn’t know, was able to interact with the community, meet new art collectors, and experience and variety of art expressions and processes.

Everyone I interacted with from the Kimball Art Center or the Park City Arts Council were so kind and helpful, and despite a surprise bout of inclement weather everything ran smoothly and was organized. I am so thankful the staff and volunteers’ upbeat spirits and the excitement and hard work they contributed, it was evident.

I forgot to take pictures of all of my pieces before they were auctioned off, but below are some images of the event and artworks.
